Preamble: Our Mission and Commitment

The Global Feng Shui Association (GFSA) is dedicated to upholding the highest standards of professionalism, integrity, and competence in the practice of Feng Shui and traditional environmental arts. As a global body, we recognize the growing demand for services that integrate ancient wisdom with modern living.

This Code of Ethics and Professional Conduct serves as the foundational guide for all GFSA members, affiliates, and practitioners worldwide. Its purpose is to ensure public trust, protect clients, and advance the profession's legitimacy and reputation. Adherence to this Code is a mandatory condition of membership and certification.

Article I: The Principle of Legal and Regulatory Compliance

Section 1.1: Supremacy of Local Law All members must operate in strict and full compliance with all applicable laws, statutes, and regulations of the jurisdiction (nation, state, or municipality) in which they practice. This Code does not supersede, but rather complements, local legal requirements.

Section 1.2: Strict Prohibitions (Universal Ethical Red Lines) To protect the public and the profession, the GFSA explicitly prohibits the following conduct in all jurisdictions:

  • 1. Prohibition on Unlicensed Medical Practice:

    • Members shall never diagnose specific medical conditions, prescribe treatments, or provide medical advice.

    • Members shall never advise a client to refuse, delay, or discontinue treatment from a licensed healthcare professional.

    • Guidance: Environmental recommendations intended to support well-being (e.g., advising on light, airflow, or color psychology) must be clearly distinguished from medical advice and accompanied by a disclaimer stating, "This consultation is not a substitute for professional medical care."

  • 2. Prohibition on Fraud, Extortion, and Fear-Mongering:

    • Members shall never use fear-based tactics, such as fabricating or exaggerating predictions of disaster, illness, or misfortune, to induce a client to purchase services or products.

    • Fees must be transparent and based on professional time, expertise, and defined services (e.g., consultation, analysis, reporting), not on the "power" to avert a fabricated catastrophe.

    • The sale of any products must be secondary to the consultation and free from coercion.

  • 3. Prohibition on Political Interference:

    • Members shall maintain strict political neutrality in their professional capacity.

    • The practice of Feng Shui or related arts shall never be used to publicly or privately comment on, predict, or attempt to influence state politics, government policies, or the tenure of public officials.

    • Guidance: Services must be confined strictly to personal, family, and corporate/business consulting.

  • 4. Prohibition on Disruption of Public Order:

    • Members shall never organize or promote group activities that contravene public safety regulations, disturb public order, or incite superstitious panic.

    • All public workshops, seminars, or events must be conducted in compliance with local venue and public assembly laws.

Article II: The Principle of Professional Integrity

Section 2.1: Accurate Representation Members shall be truthful in all communications.

  • Titling: Avoid grandiose, misleading, or superstitious titles such as "Grandmaster," "Prophet," "Demi-God," or "Living Immortal."

  • Recommended Titling: "Traditional Culture Consultant," "Environmental Design Consultant," "Feng Shui Practitioner," "Spatial Planning Advisor," or "Classical Studies Educator."

Section 2.2: Responsible Language The practice of Feng Shui is an art and science of potentials, probabilities, and environmental influence, not an oracle of absolute certainty.

  • Avoid: Language such as "I guarantee," "this will absolutely happen," "you must," or "this is 100% certain."

  • Recommended Language: "This suggests," "the potential for... is higher," "I recommend," "this is a favorable option," "based on this analysis," or "this may contribute to..."

Section 2.3: Financial Transparency All members must conduct their business with financial integrity, including issuing formal service agreements, providing proper invoices/receipts, and complying with all local tax laws.

Article III: The Principle of Client Duty and Responsibility

Section 3.1: Client Welfare The client's welfare and best interests are paramount, provided they do not conflict with the law or this Code.

Section 3.2: Confidentiality Members shall maintain the strictest confidentiality of all client information, discussions, and reports, unless required by law to disclose.

Section 3.3: Formal Service Agreements Prior to engagement, members must provide clients with a written agreement or contract that clearly defines:

  • The specific scope of services to be rendered.

  • The fee structure and payment terms.

  • The deliverables (e.g., verbal consultation, written report).

  • A clear disclaimer of liability (e.g., stating that services are not a guarantee of specific life outcomes and are not a substitute for professional legal, financial, or medical advice).

Article IV: Recommended Areas of Professional Practice

The GFSA encourages members to build sustainable, compliant, and respected careers by focusing on the following professional domains:

  • 1. Environmental & Spatial Design Consulting (Core Practice)

    • Focus: Providing professional advice on the selection, planning, layout, and optimization of residential, commercial, and public spaces.

    • Integration: Blending traditional principles with modern architecture, interior design, and environmental psychology to create harmonious and supportive environments.

  • 2. Cultural Education & Training (Knowledge-Based)

    • Focus: Offering structured courses, workshops, seminars, and corporate training on the philosophy, history, and application of the I-Ching, Feng Shui, and other traditional cultural studies.

    • Compliance: This falls within the compliant and respected field of education, focusing on knowledge transfer rather than predictive or superstitious claims.

  • 3. Personal & Corporate Strategy Consulting (High-Level Advisory)

    • Focus: Utilizing the philosophical models of traditional arts to provide supplementary insights and strategic perspectives for personal development, career planning, and business decision-making.

    • Positioning: This is an advisory role, acting as a "strategy consultant" or "traditional culture advisor" to help clients explore options, not a "fortune-teller" dictating an unchangeable fate.

Conclusion: Advancing the Profession Together

The future of our profession depends on our collective commitment to ethics, professionalism, and legal compliance. By adhering to this Code, GFSA members not only safeguard their own practice but also contribute to the positive, global reputation of traditional environmental arts.

Let us honor our cultural heritage by practicing it with the integrity and rigor it deserves in the modern world.
